New constructions at Pallekele Open Prison to be opened ^Featured

The newly constructed Buddhist Temple, "Silpa Sabha" products showroom and the officers' holiday resort at the Pallekele open prison premises will be declared open on Monday (18) at 10.00.a.m under the patronage of the Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu religious affairs D.M.Swaminathan.

A special significance is that all constructions of this new buildings had been carried out with the contributions from the Prisoners' Welfare Association and through money from prison labour.

The Shilpa Sabha Products showroom comprising handicrafts of prison inmates has been built at a cost of Rs.6 million while the Buddhist Temple had been built at a cost of Rs.0.6 million.

The Officers' Holiday Resort has been built with financial donations from Prison Officers' Welfare Association and from the Prison Officers in addition to prison labour and it has cost Rs.13 million.
