The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management has taken steps to implement the “Wellassa Navodaya” accelerated irrigation project which has been planned with the view of uplifting the living status of the residents in Monaragala District, within four years from 2016-2019.
Monaragala is the second largest district in Sri Lanka with a population that largely depends on agriculture. Accordingly, it has been planned to implement an accelerated programme to rehabilitate irrigation infrastructure in the area.
The proposal made by Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management Wijith Wijayamuni Zoysa, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
