    Nadeswara Maha Vidyalaya return to students after 26 years

    In order to uplift the educational standards of the children in North, President Maithripala Sirisena return the Nadeswara Maha Vidyalaya in Thelippalei to students after 26 years, which had been used by the security forces during the conflict.

    The ceremony was held on Saturday (March 12).


    With the increase of the terrorist activities in the peninsula, high security zones were set up in the conflict zone and the school came within the Thelippalei high security zone and was subsequently used by the military. Since then, the children of the area were educated at temporary locations.


    The school was handed over to the children under the national reconciliation programme and it is to be renovated by the Ministry of Education.


    President also handed over 701 acres of land to original owners of 650 families in Thelippalei and 50 families in Kopai during the ceremony.
