    Most Sacred Buddhist Relics from Taxila Pakistan to be in Moneragala

    The Most Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha from Pakistan will be exhibited in Bookkeyagolla, RajamahaVihayaya, Moneragala, for two days from June 10-11, 2016.

    The public is invited to come and pay their respects and homage to the most holy relics.


    The government of Pakistan has provided the most sacred bone relics of Lord Buddha to Sri Lankan government for public exposition throughout the Island nation for an extended period starting on Day of Wesak and concluding on Poson Poya Day. The exposition is being organized on the request of the Sri Lankan government under the bilateral cooperation agreement in the field of Culture.


    The sacred relics were handed over by the Pakistani authorities to the Sri Lankan side in a special ceremony held at Taxilla on 19th of May 2016.


    The Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe inaugurated the exposition of the most Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha brought from Pakistan, in an impressive ceremony at Temple Trees on the occasion of Wesak.


    The exhibition in Sri Lanka is displaying the collection of the Taxila Museum of Pakistan and comprises of 04 sacred artefacts / relics. These exhibits include two sacred bone relics of Lord Buddha, stone reliquary in stupa shape and a golden Casket.


    The relics are invaluable part of the archaeological heritage of Pakistan and depict the rich Buddhist history of Pakistan.
