    Dengue breeding premises: stern actions for offenders Featured

    Stern legal actions will be taken against those who carry on the potential dengue breeding sites. The number of dengue patients in June has increased rapidly.

     


    Minister of Provincial Council and Local Government Faizer Musthapha meeting the Colombo Municipal Council officials yesterday (4th July) instructed to implement a proper plan to decrease the number of dengue patients by 25% in parallel to the currently reporting number.

     

    While the discussions with the minister, the officers highlighted the poor contribution of the Grama Seva officers with the Dengue prevention measures in Colombo. Accordingly, the minister informed to call an immediate meeting with the Divisional Secretaries and the Grama Seva officers. Officers made the minister aware of the delays on the cases filed against the Dengue breeding premises and the Minister Musthapha instructed them to look into the possibility to amend the laws in this regard.

     

    “The Dengue situation in Colombo cannot be ignored anyway. We should engage in every possible effort to eradicate it. A pilot project for this will be started from the Colombo Municipal area. All the necessaries will be provided by my ministry”, he said and added, “Dengue is breeding rapidly due to the selfishness of the Public.”

     

    According to the Minister, a Health Care Officers should be appointed for each construction site with more than 10 storied building, and a particular teacher should be named for dengue eradication in school premises.
