Strong winds to continue: Rough seas expected

    August 17, 2016

The prevailing strong windy condition (up to 60-70 kmph) is expected to continue over the country and the surrounding sea area. However, this condition will gradually decrease by tomorrow, Met Department said.

Several spells of light showers will occur in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Southern and North-western provinces.

Very rough sea areas from Negombo to Trincomalee via Puttalam, Mannar and Kankasanturai, as well as from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil are expected at times due to the speedy winds up to 70-80 kmph during the next 24 hours.

Other sea areas around the island will be fairly rough at times as the winds can strengthen up to 50-55 kmph at times.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant.
