National Drug Policy before Parliament by February 6

    January 22, 2015

At the Political Party Leader's Executive Committee meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday, a decision has been taken to present the National Drug Policy to Parliament by February 6, after presenting it to the President and then to the Cabinet.

Addressing a press briefing at the Government Information Department on Wednesday (21) Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Rajitha Senaratne said that it is expected to be passed in Parliament by March 20.  The Minister further pointed out that  with the introduction of the National Drug Policy, drugs will be available in their generic name and people will be able to purchase them at very low prices.

He said he is glad to have been able to adopt the drugs policy that was created initially by Professor Senaka Bibile as the National Drug Policy.
