    February 21, 2015

A joint effort by the Police, Sri Lanka Army and the residents have been able to douse the fire that broke out in the Ambuluwawa Biodiversity Complex. Fire trucks and fire wicks were used to contain the fire.

A fire destroyed over 400 acres of land on a hill located at the Ambuluwawa Biodiversity Complex, in Gampola. that was reported from the foot of the hill last evening had spread to the peak by Saturday afternoon. The slopes in the hill proved it difficult for fire-fighters to reach the fire and dry weather and gusts had increased the spread of the fire.

According to District Secretary of Kandy Gamini Seneviratne the spread of the fire was contained by Saturday afternoon.
However massive damage has been caused to fauna and flora over 400 acres of land.
