The Police claim that a notable increase has been witnessed in motorcycle accidents during the first four months of this year. The Police said that the number of motorcyclists and cyclists killed in accidents during this period was 332.

The daily increase in motorbike accidents has become a serious issue. According to Police reports, the number of motorbikes which are operative in the island so far has exceeded 2.9 million. It is around 53 percent of the entire number of vehicles operating on highways.

The Police said the operation of motorbikes breaching road regulations is the cause of the high rate of accidents. As such the Police have decided to strictly enforce the road regulations against motorbikes.

The Police plan to draw its attention to the improper use of helmets, the use of tinted vipers and the non use of stipulated lanes by motorbikes.
