    Australia to establish clinical waste management systems in SL State Hospitals Featured

    Sri Lanka has received Australian assistance to establish clinical waste management systems in the country's state hospitals.

    One of the most serious problems being faced by the hospital authorities in Sri Lanka is the management of healthcare waste, which consists of various infectious materials. Clinic waste management need more specialized care compared to general waste management due to the hazardous nature of the clinical waste.

     

    In Sri Lanka, healthcare waste management is the responsibility of each hospital and the respective national or provincial authority.

     

    The current Health Care Waste Management (HCWM) practices in the hospitals of Sri Lanka results in significant risk to the public health.

     

    Already, Cabinet approval has been granted to proceed with the project proposal for the establishment of clinical waste management systems in the needy hospitals in Sri Lanka under Australian Assistance.

     

    Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine has received cabinet approved to implement the project subject to changes that becomes necessary in accordance with the recommendations and approval given by the Cabinet Sub Committee on Economic Affairs and as proposed by the relevant Cabinet Sub Committee.
