    Parliament Sittings to begin today (05)

    Parliament sittings will commence today(05) at 10.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m.  The entire day has been allotted for Questions for Oral Answers by the Members of Parliament.


    The Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake stated that his decision was arrived at the Committee on Parliamentary Business given the motion moved by the Minister of Foreign and Leader of the House Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena to allow 50 Questions for Oral Answers by Members of Parliament today (05).

    Motion for the appointment of the Select Committee of Parliament to identify appropriate reforms of the election laws and the electoral system and to recommend necessary amendments is scheduled to be moved in Parliament on the same day, said the Secretary General.

    Furthermore, the Secretary General Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake said that the Committee on Parliamentary Business has also decided to hold the Adjournment debate pertaining to the Final Report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into and Report or Take Necessary Action on the Bomb Attacks on 21st April, 2019 to be taken up for the 4 th consecutive day on the 07 th April.

    In addition, the Committee on Parliamentary Business has also decided to into debate the "Report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on the Political Victimizations” on the 08 th and the 09 th .

    On April 6 th , three Regulations under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, two orders under the Strategic Development Projects Act, a Resolution for the Revision of Salary and Allowances of the Director-General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption is scheduled to be taken into debate.

    Meanwhile, two questions of urgent public importance at the adjournment time of each Sitting Day of Parliament, one each from the Government and the Opposition for 20 minutes within the time allocated for the motion at the adjournment was agreed to be allowed at the Committee on Parliamentary Business in response to an inquiry made bythe Hon. Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella
