Media should act neutrally to ensure free and fair election - Chairman HRCSL Featured

    August 03, 2015

Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL), Justice Priyantha R. P. Perera appealed to both print and electronic media to act independently and impartially during the election period to ensure a conducive environment in the run-up to the Parliamentary Election on August 17. It is the Media's responsibility to promote what is best for the country without pursuing personal agendas, said the HRCSL Chairman while addressing a media conference held at the HRCSL today (03).

Justice Perera urged the media to persuade the electorate to exercise their franchise to pave the way for a government most beneficial to the country.

Acknowledging the right of those in the print and electronic media, too, to vote for any political party, Justice Perera emphasized the significant importance of objective political coverage.
