    Minds of the people should be beautiful as the cities they live President

    The minds of the people should be beautiful like the cities they live built according to the modern cities concept If not wishes and expectations of the people will not get fulfilled by living in such towns, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said.

    The President made these remarks at the concluding ceremony of the World Cities Day held on Saturday (Oct. 31) at “Ape Gama” premises in Pelawatta, Battaramulla.

     

    “Even in developed countries in world, the heavy population living in towns has become a difficult challenge. When there is a heavy population in towns, issues on providing required facilities to large number of people, health protection and education for children arises. The same town which gives good things to society gives bad things as well. Therefore we should pay attention to these matters when planning cities”, the President stated. Planning helps communities to envision their future. It helps them find the right balance of new development and essential services, environmental protection, and innovative change, he added.

     

    President Sirisena also presented certificates and gifts to the winners of the drawing and essay competitions held among children living in nine housing complexes built for low income families.

     

    Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka, Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Chief Minister of Western Province Isura Dewapriya and the Chief Technology Consultant of UN – HABITAT – United Nations Human Settlement Program Teem Macknair also participated in this event.
