    President inaugurates exposition of Sacred Relics from Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya in Thailand Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena inaugurated the exposition of the Sacred Relics from Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya, in the Buddhamanthan Temple in Thailand yesterday afternoon (02).

    The cultural and religious relationship between Sri Lanka and Thailand dates back to centuries and the diplomatic relationship between the two countries established 60 years ago.

     

    The Prime Minister of Thailand General Prayut Chan –o- cha also participated in this ceremony.

     

    The total Buddhist population of Thailand is 96%. In parallel to the President’s state visit the Sacred Relics brought to Thailand from Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya, and 60 Buddhist monks who accompanied the President for the visit also participated in this exposition and the exposition will continue until 16 November 2015.

     

    The special public exposition of the Sacred Relics from Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya inaugurated amidst the chanting of seth pirith by the Maha Sangha including Ven. Ittepane Dhammalankara Nayaka Thera, the chief incumbent of the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Urulawatte Dhamma Rakkitha Thero.
