The Minister of Education Akila Wiraj Kariyawasam said that there is a doubt about a plan to sabotage the government's program proposed through the 2016 Appropriation Bill to distribute cash vouchers to buy school uniforms instead of distributing material. He said that a special statement would be made in Parliament tomorrow in this regard.
He made this observation in Parliament today in response to a question for oral answers by UNP parliamentarian Buddhika Pathirana.
Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that the procedure of providing vouchers instead of clothing materials for official school uniforms has been extremely successful. Up to yesterday 95 percent of the voucher program has been completed and the last date to obtain the vouchers has been extended up to 28th February, he added.
