    Rescue operations set new standards

    Launching full scale rescue operations in flood affected areas the Government has despatched tri-forces and the police. According to the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe it is the best move to mark the War Heroes’ Anniversary.

    Immediately after returning from an observation tour, the Prime Minister updated the Parliament yesterday. He has observed the flood affected areas from sky with Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka and Minister of Disaster Management Anura Priyadarshana Yapa. 

    Updating the House with details of Government action PM said: “I observed the disaster hit areas. We visited affected areas in Gampaha, Aranayake and Kaduwela. Irresponsible constructions are key reasons for disasters.

    Especially the reclaimed lands.” Praising the armed forces for their contribution in rescue operations, the PM said, “The Government has a comprehensive plan to avoid landslides in the future.

    Well, the members of tri-forces and the Police marked the Ranaviru Day with honour by engaging themselves in rescue operations. They were able to save thousands of lives.” (AH)
