    President worships Sacred Kapilavasthu Relics at Indian national museum

    President Maithripala Sirisena who is on a two-day State visit to India worshiped the Kapilavastu Relics placed in the Indian national museum in New Delhi yesterday (07).


    Later, the President and his delegation visited other sections of the Indian National Museum. After the visit to the Museum the President arrived at the Indian Maha Bodhi Centre at the Birla Mandir in New Delhi.


    President Sirisena is the second Sri Lankan leader to visit the Maha Bodhi Viharaya in New Delhi after former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. When the President arrived at the Temple Venerable Rathmalwala Sumiththananda Nayake Thero and a group of Indian Buddhists warmly welcomed him.


    After engaging in the religious observances the President offered floral tributes to the statue of Anagarika Dharmapala at the temple premises.


    President Sirisena also inqured into the wellbeing of the Chief Incumbent of the temple and the Nayaka Thera chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings on the President.


    A group of Sri Lankans living in New Delhi also participated in this event and the President engaged in a cordial discussion with them.
