    Mathew Abeysinghe with 7 golds breaks Bolling's record Featured

    Sri Lankan swimmer Matthew Abeysinghe broke the record set by Julian Bolling in 1991 who bagged six Gold Medals for Sri Lanka. by winning his seventh Gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games, yesterday (10).

    Matthew Abeysinghe won two gold medals yesterday one in the 400 metres medley and 100 metres freestyle events. Earlier he claimed a gold medal in the 2016 South Asian Games in the Men’s 200m Freestyle Swimming event.


    He then won the second gold in the 100m Butterfly event and the third gold in the men’s 100m freestyle relay. Abeysinghe also won gold in the men’s 50m and 100m freestyle events.


    Michico Raheem also erased the record for highest medals tally by an individual when she surpassed her eldre sister Mayumi Raheem who held the record with four golds in 2006. Kimiko won the 100m free style gold (57.20 secs) while Michiko secured the silver with a timing of 59.64 secs. Cherantha Silve won the silver in 100m free style event, clocking 52.11secs.
