    Deepavali celebrated at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tel Aviv

    The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel celebrated “Deepavali”, the Festival of Lights, for the second consecutive year, at a colourful ceremony at the Embassy premises on Saturday, 29th October. The function was attended by a cross- section of the Sri Lankan community in Israel along with the Embassy staff.


    This ceremony was held in keeping with the tradition of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel of celebrating the important religious festivals of the major religions practiced in Sri Lanka.


     

    Ambassador Periyasamy Pillai Selvaraj who welcomed the gathering highlighted the importance of Deepavali. In his speech, he stressed the necessity of eliminating the darkness in the minds of human beings in order to create tolerance and harmony amongst all people irrespective of their ethnicity, caste, creed, religions and any other differences to become good citizens.


     

    One of the highlights of the event was the beautiful chanting of devotional keerthanas by Gunavatar Das and his team.


     

    D.A. Eranga Algama, Minister of this Mission delivered the vote of thanks.

     

    The programme ended with a reception hosted by the Embassy to all participants with an array of traditional Hindu Foods and sweets associated with Deepavali.
