A group of 200 Japanese tourists, organized by the Little Japan Group, departed for Sri Lanka today on SriLankan Airlines Flight UL455, marking an encouraging development in tourism relations between Sri Lanka and Japan.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Prof. Pivithuru Janak Kumarasinghe, together with First Secretary (Commerce) Mr. Sandun Sameera, met the group at Narita International Airport and saw them off prior to their departure for Sri Lanka. During their visit, the tourists are expected to explore several of Sri Lanka’s renowned attractions, including Sigiriya, while experiencing the country’s traditional Ayurveda treatments and wellness offerings.
The visit was organized by the Little Japan Group, with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan providing support, guidance and facilitation.
During his interaction with the visitors at the airport, Ambassador Kumarasinghe warmly welcomed the group and expressed his appreciation for their trust and confidence in choosing Sri Lanka as their holiday destination. He also wished them a safe journey and a pleasant, enjoyable and memorable stay in Sri Lanka.
The Ambassador noted that the departure of 200 Japanese tourists to Sri Lanka on a single flight represents an encouraging milestone in Sri Lanka–Japan tourism relations and is among the largest organized groups of Japanese tourists to travel to Sri Lanka together.
He expressed confidence that growing interest among Japanese travellers, together with the continued efforts of the Sri Lankan tourism industry and other relevant stakeholders, would further strengthen tourism exchanges between the two countries and contribute towards Sri Lanka achieving and surpassing its previous tourist arrival records.
The Embassy expressed its appreciation to the Little Japan Group for its initiative in organizing the visit and for its contribution towards promoting Sri Lanka as an attractive, safe and memorable destination for Japanese travellers.
The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen people-to-people connectivity, tourism cooperation and closer ties between Sri Lanka and Japan.
