The first Randoli Perahera of the historic Kandy Esala Perahera commenced this evening, marking the beginning of the final five nights of the annual pageant.
The Perahera set off from the Sri Dalada Maligawa at the auspicious time of 6.44 p.m. and is now parading the streets of Kandy. The Randoli Perahera will be held for five consecutive nights, with the final Randoli Perahera scheduled for August 27. The Kandy Esala Perahera, a major cultural and religious event in Sri Lanka, draws thousands of devotees, local visitors and foreign tourists to Kandy each year.
In view of the Perahera, special traffic arrangements and enhanced security measures have been put in place in Kandy to ensure the smooth conduct of the procession and the safety of the public.
