Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has extended her greetings to the Muslim community in Sri Lanka and around the world on the occasion of National Milad-un-Nabi, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
In her message, the Prime Minister highlighted the enduring values of peace, equality, compassion and mutual respect embodied in the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, noting that these principles remain highly relevant at a time when the world continues to face political, economic and humanitarian crises.
She expressed concern over the loss of innocent lives and the suffering caused by armed conflicts, emphasizing that the Prophet’s commitment to justice, religious coexistence and the well-being of all people offers profound lessons for contemporary society.
The Prime Minister said that, as a nation enriched by ethnic and religious diversity, Sri Lanka must embrace these values in everyday life by showing empathy towards one another and working together in unity.
She also expressed her sincere prayers for a world where peace prevails over conflict, and where those affected by violence, displacement and humanitarian crises can soon experience peace, security and renewed hope for the future.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya noted that this year’s National Milad-un-Nabi celebration, centred in the Gampaha District and being held at Al Hilal National School in Periyamulla, Negombo, provides an opportunity to further strengthen religious coexistence, unity and harmony, while celebrating the richness of Sri Lanka’s diversity.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs and the organizing committee for their dedicated efforts towards the successful conduct of the national celebration.
The Prime Minister extended her wishes for a peaceful, prosperous, harmonious and joyous Milad-un-Nabi to all Muslim devotees in Sri Lanka and around the world.
