President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed the Government to provide US$1 million in financial assistance to support relief efforts for people affected by floods and landslides in Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Expressing his condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Sri Lanka, the President conveyed his deepest sympathies to the Government and people of Nepal, as well as to the families who lost their loved ones in the disaster.
Recalling the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Nepal, President Dissanayake emphasized that Sri Lanka stands firmly with the Nepalese people during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath conveyed Sri Lanka’s condolences and support during a telephone conversation with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal today.
The Sri Lankan Government is also expected to work closely with the Government of Nepal to explore further ways of supporting the country’s relief and recovery efforts.
