The Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E Dewi Gustina Tobing, met with the Speaker of Parliament of Sri Lanka, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne recently.
During the discussion, the Hon. Speaker commended the longstanding and friendly bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, particularly in the areas of agriculture, trade, tourism, and people-to-people engagement. He emphasized the importance of further strengthening these ties for mutual benefit.
The conversation also explored opportunities in the transport sector, highlighting Indonesia’s Panoramic Train operating in Jakarta as a model that could inspire similar tourism-oriented developments in Sri Lanka. The Speaker further expressed interest in promoting knowledge exchange in the small and medium-scale batik industry. In addition, he shared his views on the Indonesian traditional musical instrument Angklung, noting its symbolic representation of social harmony and coexistence.
The Speaker also highlighted the Sri Lankan government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, emphasizing the country’s current readiness to attract and sustain investment. Ambassador Tobing acknowledged these developments and expressed her eagerness to work more closely with the Sri Lankan government moving forward.
Furthermore, discussions were held on the establishment of the Sri Lanka -Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Association.In addition, the Indonesian Ambassador, Dewi Gustina Tobing, also met with the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Dr. Rizvi Salih, where discussions were held on enhancing bilateral relations in the sectors of agriculture, transport, tourism and culture.The meeting was also attended by the Ministerial Counsellor, Deputy Ambassador of the Indonesian Embassy, Mr. Fiki Oktanio, and the Ministerial Counsellor of the Indonesian Embassy, Ms. Lailal Khairiyah Yuniarti. and Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera.
