    National Scout Jamboree in Jaffna from Feb.20-26

    Around 8000 scouts along with their Scout Masters from all the districts of Sri Lanka will participate at the 9th National Jamboree to be held in Jaffna from 20-26 February at Municipal Grounds and adjoining areas. This is the first time a National Jamboree is being held in Northern Province and also coincides with 100 years of scouting in Jaffna. The Theme of the Jamboree is “Friendship & Understanding”.

    Around 200 Foreign scouts and leaders are expected from a few countries. Already Nepal, India, Malaysia and Bangladesh have confirmed their participation. Maldives is yet to confirm.



    The campers will be divided in to four Sub Camps named Pidurutalagala, Namunukula, Rakwana and Samanala. The Sub camp Administration Team will administer the Sub Camps which will be headed by a sub camp Chief with a Deputy and Assistant.



    Campers are expected to arrive on 20 February Saturday at 8.00 a.m. Activities will commence with the Soft Opening on 21 February at 8.30 a.m.



    Around 25 activities of Adventure, Skills, Culture, Environment, Archaeology, Traditional Games, Health and sustainable Energy will conducted between 9.00 a.m – 5.00 p.m each day.



    Activity Awards will be given to the scouts who complete the minimum number of activities required. An activity book will be given to all registered scouts to record the activities done.



    The Jamboree will be ceremonially declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday 22 February at 4.00 p.m. at the Jaffna Central College Grounds. The Opening also coincides with Baden Powell Day.



    Daily Cultural and Musical Presentations will take place from 7.00 p.m. and the International Night will be on 22nd February 2016. Jaffna Centenary Day will be held on 23rd February with activities planned for the whole day culminating in the evening with a Cultural Presentation. The Army Beat Group will be in attendance on 21 February and the Navy Beat Group on 22 February.



    The Closing Ceremony will be on Friday 25 February at 4.00 followed by the Arena Display Depicting the history of scouting in Sri Lanka followed by a musical presentation by the Air Force.



    Campers will leave on 26 February after obtaining clearance certificates.



    The Jamboree Chief is the Chief Commissioner Prof. Nimal De Silva and the Joint Organising Commissioners are M. F. S. Muheed and Damian Silva . There are 12 organising teams assigned with various subjects.
