    Price of rice and vegetables reduce

    Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute states that there is a trend of price of rice and vegetables reducing. 

    According to Chief of Marketing Food Policy and Agri Business  W.H. Duminda  Priyadarshana normally the price of vegetables are low during the months of February, March, April and August, September and October.

     

    The reason for the low prices is the high supply of low country and up country vegetables to the market.  He says that this trend can continue until the first week of October.

     

    According to published statistics a kilogram of carrot has reduced to RS 62.50 from Rs 70, a kilo of beetroot from Rs 71.90 to Rs 50.83 tomatoes from Rs 45 to Rs 35 and Ladies fingers from Rs 27.50 to Rs 17.50.
