    Coastal Clean-up Day in Matara on Sept.23

    The Marine Environment Protection Authority implemented several programmes since last Saturday (19) parallel to the International Coastal Clean-up Day which falls on the 3rd Saturday of September.

     
    Accordingly,  the coastal area of the Matara District will be cleaned up by dividing into 11 zones on Sept.23 from 7.30 am. to 11.00 am.  The main event will take place on Sept.23 at 8.00 am close to the Thotamuna Nilwala river-mouth. Politicians of the district, Matara District Secretary Ms.E.A.C.Vidanagamachchi, government officers, students, Fishing and Civil organizations will take part in this coastal clean-up programme.
     
     

    Out of 55kms. of coastal belt  in the Matara District 07kms. will be cleaned up on Sept.23.  This will include coastal areas of Nilwella Fisheries Harbour, Suduwella Fisheries Harbour, coastal area belonging to Dickwella town, Gandara Oruwella Fisheries Harbour, Kiralawella anchorage, Puranawella Fisheries Harbour, Matara town costal area, coastal area near Thotamuna river-mounth, Mirissa Fisheries Harbour, Pelena Coastal area and coastal area surrounding Kapparathota Oruwella.
