Maduro appointed current chief of the Strategic Operational Command of the National Bolivarian Armed Force, Vladimir Padrino, as Defense Minister to assume both positions simultaneously.

Admiral Carmen Melendez was appointed Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace to replace Miguel Rodriguez.

In an address to the nation, President Maduro praised Rodriguez' nonstop work for 15 years, including 19 months as minister of Interior," adding that he would appoint him "to undertake a new mission." (KH)
