Health and Mass Media Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa says the government is taking diplomatic measures to bring organized crime suspects hiding overseas back to Sri Lanka.
Speaking at today’s (1) Cabinet decisions media briefing, Minister Jayatissa said 66 wanted criminals have been brought back to Sri Lanka over the past two years.
Of them, 28 were organized crime suspects subject to Interpol Red Notices, while the remaining 38 were organized crime suspects and individuals wanted in connection with other offences.
He said the government has obtained 110 Interpol Red Notices since assuming office, including 55 against organized criminals and drug traffickers.
The Minister added that the locations of 35 suspects living overseas have been identified, and diplomatic efforts are underway with the relevant countries to secure their return to Sri Lanka.
