Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara says there will be no mercy for individuals involved in selling drugs.
Speaking at a meeting held at Mahara Prison today (1), the Minister said 9,081 forensic reports were issued during August alone, as part of efforts to clear the backlog. He said the government aims to issue all pending forensic reports within the next two months.
The Minister also said emergency response mechanisms have been established in 15 prisons to identify and address potential incidents before they escalate.
He further stated that scanning machines would be provided to all prisons through the upcoming Budget.
During his visit to Mahara Prison, the Minister inspected areas damaged in the recent unrest and urged inmates to avoid returning to drug-related offences after their release, stressing the need for them to become productive members of society.
