His Excellency Rémi Lambert, Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, recently at the Prime Minister’s Office in Colombo.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Amarasuriya welcomed the Ambassador and conveyed her appreciation for the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and France. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration in areas of mutual interest, with particular attention to expanding French language training opportunities in Sri Lanka especially for diplomatic officials and strengthening training programs for Sri Lankan civil servants.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged France’s significant investment presence across key sectors in Sri Lanka and expressed her appreciation for the continued support of the French Government, particularly through the Paris Club, in Sri Lanka’s ongoing debt restructuring process.
Ambassador Lambert reaffirmed France’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations and emphasized France’s readiness to enhance collaboration in the cultural, educational, and economic spheres.
The meeting was attended by Mrs. Marie-Noëlle Duris, Deputy Head of Mission, and Ms. Olivia Bellemere, Counsellor for Cooperation and Culture at the Embassy of France in Colombo. Representing the Government of Sri Lanka were Mr. J.M.I.R.K. Jayasundara, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister (Administration), Ms. Sagarika Bogahawatta, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister (Development), and Ms. Isurika Karunarathne, Director of the Europe Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
