    June 03, 2016

Sri Lanka Navy has assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard on Thursday (June 02) to arrest four Indian fishermen for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

The Navy personnel arrested the four fishermen along with an Indian fishing trawler while fishing in Sri Lankan waters northwest of Delft Island.

The arrested fishermen along with the fishing trawler will be handed over to the Jaffna Fisheries Inspector for onward action.

This is the second incidence the Sri Lankan Navy arrested fishermen from Tamil Nadu this week after the Tamil Nadu Fishermen with mechanized boats resumed fishing at the end of the Indian state's 45 day ban on fishing in the eastern coastal zone on midnight Sunday.

The Navy personnel on Monday (May 30) arrested seven fishermen along with a trawler while fishing in Sri Lankan waters northwest of Thalaimannar.
