    Three-day dengue prevention campaign begins

    Under the three-day island-wide dengue prevention program commenced from yesterday (27th July)  nearly 35, 720 premises in Western Province were inspected and 330 of them were prosecuted for maintaining possible dengue breeding places.


    This three-day program was initiated by the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine on the instructions of Minister Dr. Rajitha Senarathne to clean the school and public institution premises. About 1, 200 groups of officials had been deployed for the inspections.

     


    Out of 58 public institutions inspected, 7 institutions were found with mosquito larvae and 15 were noticed. In addition, eight private institutions and eight factory premises have also been found with larvae.

     


    Currently, five provinces namely, Western, Central, North-Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern have been identified as dengue risky provinces. Several provinces show a decrease in the numbers of patients while new larvae and patients are reported form Puttalam, Matale, Ukuwela, Badulla, and Hali Ela areas.

     


    According to the National Dengue Prevention Campaign, the number of dengue patients will be decreased by the fourth week of July.  Minister of Health Dr. Senarathne has already provided necessary human resource and the equipment to control the situation.
