    Russian Navy rescue ship arrives in Sri Lanka's Colombo port

    Sri Lanka Navy, in accordance with naval traditions, ceremonially welcomed the Russian Navy Rescue Vessel "Epron" arrived at the Port of Colombo Wednesday 23rd September on a goodwill visit.

    Russian Rescue Vessel "Epron", arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 2015, the Navy said.

     

    RFS Epron is a submarine rescue ship of the Black Sea Fleet commanded by Captain 3rd Rank Denis A. Bergs. It is 89.7 meters in length. It has a displacement of 3,380 tons and a crew of 138 naval personnel.

     

    The ship has departed from Sevastopol on August 26 and headed to the Indian Ocean to take part in the joint activities with the ships of the Indian Navy, according to the Russian Federation's Defense Ministry. The Commander of the task group, Captain 1st Rank Sergey V. Ignatov and Commanding Officer paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva at the Western Naval Command Headquarters in Colombo. They held cordial discussions and exchanged mementos as a gesture of goodwill.

     

    The visiting Russian ship will stay in Sri Lanka until 26th September.
