Discussion held on Poson religious festival and procession of historic Tissamaharama and Sithulpawwa temples

Sri Lanka’s cultural traditions must be preserved and carried forward for future generations –Secretary to the President

A discussion on the Poson religious festival and procession of the historic Tissamaharama Raja Maha Viharaya and Sithulpawwa Raja Maha Viharaya was held this afternoon (5) at the Presidential Secretariat with the participation of the Secretary to the President, Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.

Speaking at the meeting, the Secretary to the President emphasised that the support of all stakeholders is essential to successfully organise the series of annual religious events. He noted that Sri Lanka’s cultural traditions should be safeguarded and carried forward for the benefit of future generations.

The Chief Incumbent monks of the Tissamaharama and Sithulpawwa temples expressed appreciation for the government’s commitment towards ensuring the successful organisation of the Poson celebrations at the two historic temples.

Attention was also drawn to the need to find a permanent solution for the road leading to Sithulpawwa Temple, which requires repairs every year.

Among those present were Chief Incumbent of Tissamaharama Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Dr Devalegama Dhammasena Nayaka Thera, Chief Incumbent of Sithulpawwa Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Lelwala Samitha Nayaka Thera, Hambantota District Member of Parliament, Nihal Galappaththi, Southern Province Governor, Prof. Susiripala Manawadu, Senior Additional Secretary to the President, Roshan Gamage, Southern Province Chief Secretary, Chandima C. Muhandiramge and Hambantota District Secretary, Bimal Indrajith Silva.

Heads of relevant state institutions, officials of private sector organisations and senior officers of the security forces also attended the meeting.
