According to Save the Children’s State of the World’s Mothers Report 2014, Sri Lanka is the best place to be a mother in southern Asia. Sri Lanka’s 89th ranking puts it in the middle of the group of 178 countries ranked.

For its role in terrorism in Sri Lanka and in India and terrorist support activities, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is a proscribed terrorist group in the US, Canada, UK, EU, India and a number of other countries.

A thriving and vibrant electoral democracy through periodic elections, India has a distinct identity at the global stage. Since independence in 1947, the country has witnessed a peaceful transfer of power through ballot in last more than six decades. Termed as world’s largest democracy and second most populous country on earth, India has begun its mammoth election exercise from April 7, 2014. Divided into 28 states and 7 union territories the country with population of more than 1.2 billion will elect its new Federal Government.

It would however be overly simplistic to attribute this success to events that took place far away in Geneva, as many post-poll analysts have indicated, following a trend of those who were critical of the UPFA's strategy during the poll campaign.
