The new boat service was launched under the patronage of Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affais S.B. Navinna and Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife Gamini Jayawickrema Perera.

This area which has won the attraction of tourists is consisted of 21 islands and is home to migratory birds and indigenous aquatic life.

The Ministers said that plans have been drawn up to build floating boat resorts at Gangewadiya area for tourists.
