    Navy recovers 158 kg of cannabis floating in the northern seas

    Sri Lankan Navy personnel Monday (June 06) recovered a stock of 'Kerala Ganja' floating in the northern seas off Jaffna peninsula.

    Naval personnel on-board P 422 patrol craft have recovered 158 kg of Kerala cannabis floating in Sri Lankan waters near the International Maritime Boundary Line north of Kankasanthurai yesterday (6).


    The Navy suspects that the haul of cannabis transferred from India, might have been abandoned when seen the approaching naval craft.


    In another incident, the naval personnel attached to SLNS Parakumba in Eastern Naval Area have arrested nine local fishermen for engaging in illegal fishing activities in Sampur area on Sunday (June 05).


    Along with the suspects, a dinghy, a monofilament net, two diving masks and a pair of diving fins used for fishing activities were also taken into custody.


    The apprehended persons and the items were produced to Sampur Police for onward action, the Navy said.
