    The Parliamentary Sub-Committee to formulate ''Law''as a subject in the school curriculum to Submit Report in Two Months

    The Parliamentary Sub-Committee appointed to formulate a methodology in order to include ‘Law' as a subject in the school curriculum has decided to
    submit its report to the Consultative Committee in two months.

    Meanwhile, the Committee unanimously appointed Hon. State Minister Susil Premajayantha as the Chairman of the Committee.

    This sub-committee was appointed at a special joint meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Education and Justice for the purpose of formulating a mechanism to incorporate ‘Law’ as a subject into the school curriculum.

    At the first Parliamentary Sub-Committee meeting which was Chaired by Hon. State Minister Susil Premajayantha, upon the agreement of all Committee members, declared opened the proceedings of the Committee to the media. The Committee was also of the view that proposals from the public should be obtained in this regard and a mechanism to facilitate such public proposals should be established.


    A technical committee consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Education and the State Ministry of Educational Reforms, National Institute of Education, Ministry of Justice and Bar Association of Sri Lanka was also appointed for the purpose of assisting the committee and formulating a report on this regard.

    It was also decided not introduce ‘Law’ as a one subject but to include it systematically to the curriculum and also to explore the experience of the other countries having in educating Law to the school children

    MPs and Committee members Hon. Rauf Hakeem, S. Shritharan, Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Sagara Kariyawasam, Amarakeerthi Athukorala, Diana Gamage, Major Sudarshana Denipitiya, officials representing the National Institute of Education, Ministry of Justice, Bar Association of Sri Lanka were present at the meeting held.
