    President stresses need for protecting archaeological sites

    President Maithripala Sirisena emphasized that all parties should fulfill their responsibilities for the preservation and conservation of archaeological sites.

     

    He made these remarks addressing a ceremony held at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute in Colombo on 27th September to hand over the research book on Tampita Vihara in Sri Lanka to the President.

     

    This book was presented to the readers as a result of high standard research undertaken by the Humanities Faculty of the University of Kelaniya under the funds of the Higher Education for the Twenty First Century (HETC) project.

     

    President Sirisena further said that we must safeguard our historical heritage for the future generations and emphasized the need of fulfilling respective duties towards protecting Buddhist monks at our village temple as well as the Buddhist temples to ensure their sustainable existence.

     

    The book was presented to the President by its author by Mrs. Ganga Rajani Dissanayake.
