A day after the Congress called for an inquiry into alleged human rights violations in Sri Lanka during the war with the LTTE, the UPA government did the opposite: India abstained on the Sri Lanka resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka navy has initiated immediate action to facilitate the release of the remaining 98 Indian fishermen and 28 Indian boats in the Sri Lankan Custody.

The German Asia-Pacific Business Association is a strong network of German business companies in the fields of trade, industry, banking and small and medium size enterprises with activities in the Asia Pacific region. The Association works on the promotion of bilateral economic relationships between Germany and the Asia-Pacific Region.
The Government of Japan extended the 44th Yen Loan amounting to Japanese Yen 35,020 million (approximately Rs. 45 billion) to Sri Lanka towards the Second New Kelani Bridge Construction Project. The project would provide for a new 6-lane elevated bridge parallel to the existing New Kelani Bridge in order to accommodate the heavy inflow of traffic along and around the New Kelani Bridge.
It is significant that India which supported the U.S. proposals against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council on the two previous occasions remained absent from voting in the election held on Thursday (March 26). India said that the US proposal was not inconsistent with the UNHRC principles.
