    Government to spend 250 million rupees on 250,000 non-plastered houses

    The Government intends to spend a sum of 250 million rupees on behalf of 250 thousand non plastered houses. This plan is to be implemented to mark World Habitat Day. Minister Sajith Premadasa made this reference at a media conference yesterday.
     
    World Habitat Day every year is commemorated on the first Monday of October. It has been declared by the United Nations.. Accordingly World Habitat Day this year will be commemorated on October 05th.
     
    The commemoration of World Habitat Day commenced from the year 1986. It is based on a proposal adopted at the United Nations Habitat Commission in the year 1986 including many countries led by Sri Lanka.
     
    Minister Sajith Premadasa announced at the news briefing that the main ceremony to commemorate World Habitat Day will be held at the premises of the Maligawatte Housing Complex in Colombo. Speaking further, the Housing Minister said that it is planned to commence work on the plastering of 250,000 non-plastered houses throughout the island. He said that for this purpose they have selected 1000 houses from each District in the island.
