    Special Traffic Plan for today's final Kelaniya Perahera

    Final day of the annual Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara perahera (procession) will be held tonight.

     

    The final Perahera will commence today at 8.00 pm. with the handing over of the Sacred Relic Casket to Chief Basnayake Nilame, Dhammika Attygalle by Ven Prof. Kollupitiya Mahinda Sangharakkita Nayake Thera. The Sacred Relic Casket will be placed on the Caparisoned Tusker Kandula by President Maithripala Sirisena.

     

    The procession will commence at Udamaluwa and travel along the Biyagama road and travel back to the Viharaya through the same route.

     

     Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Ministers Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, John Amarathunge, Sagala Ratnayake, Deputy Minister Harsha De Silva and Vice President Dayaka Sabha Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka will participate at this occasion.

     

    The office of the Police Media Spokesman  said that a special traffic plan will be in place for the final procession of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya as the relevant road might be disrupted from 8pm today to 1am on 23rd morning.

     

    Motorists travelling towards the Biyagama road through Kelaniya from Colombo are requested to travel through Sapugaskanda from Kiribathgoda from the Peliyagoda Junction.

     

    Motorists travelling from Biyagama to Colombo are requested to turn right from the Nagahamulla Junction and travel along Sapugaskanda, Makola and the Kiribathgoda road.

     

    Motorists are prohibited from travelling to Kelaniya through the Varagoda road from the Thorana Junction during the time period.

     

    Police also said heavy vehicles excluding passenger buses traveling to Colombo should turn right from the Pattiwila Junction and travel along Sapugaskanda, Makola and the Kiribathgoda road.
