Heavy falls (about 100mm) are also expected at some places, the Met Department said today (31st Aug.).

Today: Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m., fairly heavy falls (about 50mm) are also expected at some places.

Showers may occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Jaffna districts during the morning too.

On the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka between 27th August and 6th September. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is almost overhead today (31st Aug.) are Karuwalakuda, Ittikulama, Nuwarawewa, Migahadigiliya, Kantale and Ilankaiturai about 12.11 noon.
