    Children of SLA 'Volunteer Force' War Heroes receives education assistances

    Accomplishing one of the ultimate aims to facilitate the children of veteran war heroes for a fruitful education and future, in another welfare initiative the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army handed over a number of financial donations related to their education at a function held at the "Nelum Pokuna" Mahinda Rajapaksa Theater today (26th December).

    Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa accompanied by Chairperson of the MoD Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

     

    Maj. Gen Lalith Daulagala, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army's Volunteer Force, delivered the welcome address.

     

    Adding much value to the worthy course, children who excelled in Advanced Level and received University grant were awarded laptop computers. The project has been exclusively focusing on the improvement of the educational background of the children of brave war heroes those who killed in action and still in active service.

    Having proud annals over a period of 134 years, Volunteer Force has strengthened becoming an important arm of the SLA. It consists of 103 battalions and a training school. The dedicated contribution showed during the humanitarian operation was widely recognized and appreciated. Thousands of its valiant souls paid the supreme sacrifice to safeguard the nation from the ruthless terrorists.

     

    The Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, chairperson of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Damayanthi Ratnayake, chairperson of the Volunteer Force Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Saroja Daulaga, high ranking officials of the Sri Lanka Army and members of the Sri Lanka Army volunteer force were present at the occasion.
