2,133 Cumulative HIV cases at end of 1Q 2015

    July 27, 2015

About 74 children are reported to be infected with HIV in Sri Lanka. There is a possibility that this is due to mother to child transmission of HIV. Around 80 percent of pregnant mothers are expected to be tested for HIV by year's end, National STD/AIDS Control Programme sources said.

According to sources, cumulative HIV cases at the beginning of the first quarter of 2015 is 2,074. The number of HIV positive cases reported during the same quarter is 59. There were a total of 2,133 cumulative HIV cases at the end of the quarter. 1321 males and 812 females were among them.

There were 557 cumulative AIDS cases at the end of the quarter. Out of this number, 384 of them were males and 173 were females. There were nine deaths reported.
