A considerable number of people in Vavuniya lost their valuables due to the war that impacted the entire country.It destroyed not only lives but houses and property as well as many valuables.
Among them National Identity Cards and the Birth Certificates were the most important items lost. The Vavuniya Urban Council, taking into consideration this situation, organized a Special Mobile Service in the Bandarikulam area for the provision of new Birth Certificates and National Identity cards.
Parallel to this event many other services were organized to grant relief to the people affected by the war. Many people seized the opportunity of meeting their needs.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
