    Sri Lanka, Kuwait seek to enhance labor recruitment

    Sri Lanka and Kuwait discussed means of developing cooperation in the field of labor recruitment during Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Thalatha Athukorala's visit to Kuwait.

    Sri Lankan Minister on Sunday held discussions with the Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Hind Al-Sabeeh, Kuwait's official news agency KUNA reported.

     

    During the reception Kuwaiti Minister Al-Sabeeh said the Sri Lankan manpower is well respected and valued at the Kuwaiti work market.

     

    The meeting also discussed means of enhancing bilateral ties between both nations in all fields.

     

    On her part, the Minister Athukorala called on increasing the number of her country's workforce in Kuwait, suggesting the establishment of a joint committee to look into ways to enhance cooperation.

     

    This visit comes as a part of activating the signed memorandum of understanding between both countries which includes the forming of a joint work team from both sides to discuss means of developing cooperation in the field of Labor recruitment and discussing their problems, said the Sri Lankan minister.

     

    The Sri Lankan Minister's visit to Kuwait is part of her tour to the Gulf region.

     

    She was accompanied by Consultant to the Ministry of Foreign Employment Padmini Ratnayake and Minister's Coordinating Secretary Indrajith Wijesuriya.
