    Diplomatic relations prevented Geneva economic sanctions- Dep. Minister

    Strengthened diplomatic relationships between Sri Lanka and the international community were instrumental in preventing economic sanctions  and to impress the countries.

     

    According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva, the new government led by the President Maithriplaa Sirisena and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken the responsibility to merge the country with the international platform and today Sri Lanka stands very closely with the world’s powerful states.

     

    Deputy Minister addressing a press conference today (2nd June) at the Department of Government Information pointed out, the President Maithripala Sirisena’s recent visit to Japan to participate the G7 summit as the most successful official visit made by a Sri Lankan leader in the recent past. At this summit, Sri Lanka was able to improve its image among the world’s most powerful leaders and to hold discussions with them.

     

    He said “The President Sirisena showcased to the world how Sri Lanka is implementing a direct and broad program to develop the country through the reconciliation, good governance, and the human rights.”

     

    He further emphasized the importance of the diplomatic relations with any other country to earn foreign investments and to strengthen the international trade.

     

    Minister of Petroleum Chandima Weerakkodi, Chief Minister of Western Province Isura Dewapriya were also present.
