    April 11, 2017

Lanka Sathosa on 9th April completed its rapid network expansion by opening the new outlet in Akkaraipattu and began the distribution of one million concessionary food packs for the New Year season at Borella outlet.

“With the launch of new Akkaraipattu outlet we completed the rapid expansion of 50 Lanka Sathosa outlets as instructed by President Maithripala Sirisena when he inaugurated the Kohuwela Lanka Sathosa branch on 28th March”, the minister said.

He said that the President Sirisena’s vision was that during the Sinhala Hindu New Year season the general public should not face any shortages and they should strengthen state owned Lanka Sathosa network immediately before the start of the season so that the consumers will not fall victim to unscrupulous traders. According to the minister, with the opening of new Lanka Sathosa outlets, the network has increased up to 377 outlets. “Our overall target is 500 outlets across the country by the end of this year, after which we will not be adding any new outlet.”

Meanwhile, the one million concessionary food packs with number of essential goods will be distributed till 20th April at all Lanka Sathosa outlets. A food pack is valued at Rs 1,500, but sold at Rs.975.

Minister also assured that there will be no shortage during this New Year.
